FAIRBANKS, ALASKA- The numbers on the scoreboard didn’t go the Ice Dogs way, the numbers from the jersey auctions sure did. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs raised over $50,000 through Stick it to Cancer jersey auctions, which support the Circle of Hope program with the Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation.
“We are fortunate to have the screening and cancer treatment services in this community,” said Ice Dogs General Manager Rob Proffitt. “I am blown away each year with the amount of money we are able to raise to help support those services. Ice Dogs nation embodies the golden heart of Fairbanks.”
However, the rest of the weekend was utterly forgettable as the streaking Wisconsin Windigo swept the 3-game series, sandwiching a 6-2 win between a pair of 5-3 victories. The surging Windigo climbed to third in the standings following the 6-point weekend. The Ice Dogs’ lead atop the Midwest Division tenuous, as they hold a 1-point advantage over Minnesota and lead the Windigo by 3-points. However the Dogs trail both teams in terms of winning percentage.
The Ice Dogs are now on the road until February, traveling to face the Anchorage Wolverines in Alaska Airlines Club 49 Cup play this weekend. Anchorage swept Kenai River over the weekend to extend its lead in the annual battle of hockey supremacy in the 49th state. From Anchorage, the Dogs will make stops in Cloquet to face the Wilderness, and in Janesville for a 2-game series with the Jets. The Dogs then return to Alaska, but stay on the road to play the Brown Bears in Soldotna Feb. 17-18. Be sure to checkout watch parties at the Blue Flame Bar & Grill for all road games. The Dogs’ next home series comes Feb 24-25 against the Wolverines.
