The Fairbanks Ice Dogs opened the season September 14-15 with a two game series agains the Chippewa Steel. Things didn’t go as planned, as in their inaugural series, the Steel swept Fairbanks in a pair of tightly contested games.
“We learned a bit about ourselves against Chippewa, now it’s time to see how we respond to the adversity of getting swept” said Trevor Stewart, who enters his 8th season as the Ice Dogs bench boss.
The Dogs open the league wide tournament against the defending Robertson Cup champion Shreveport Mud Bugs Wednesday at 1:30 Central Time. Fairbanks faces the Minnesota Wilderness on Thursday, the Johnstown Tomahawks on Friday, and close out the Showcase against Minot on Saturday.
“It’s a tough slate, but we look forward to challenging ourselves against some of the top teams in the NAHL,” Stewart said.
The Dogs will stay on the road for two weeks following the Showcase, facing division foes Minnesota Magicians and Janesville Jets, before returning for the home opener on October 5 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
