MINNEAPOLIS, MN- The Fairbanks Ice Dogs arrived in the Land of 10,000 Lakes Tuesday in preparation for their season-opening series against the Minnesota Magicians. The Dogs begin their 25th season as a franchise against the very team that swept them out of the first round of the playoffs a season ago.
“We’re excited to get this season going, and don’t really focus on the past in any way,” said Ice Dogs Head Coach Trevor Stewart. “We have put in a lot of work in the past 10 days and are eager to see how we stack against a tough divisional opponent.”
The Dogs will play in the 8-team NAHL Midwest Division, which includes the return of the Minnesota Wilderness and the birth of the Anchorage Wolverines. The Dogs split with the first-year franchise in a pair of exhibition games in Anchorage over Labor Day weekend.
“We had the opportunity to see players in a variety of situations last weekend,” Stewart said. “Those games serve as a valuable evaluation tool heading into Friday’s season opener.”
The Ice Dogs will remain in Minnesota following their series against the Magicians, to play in the league’s annual Showcase Tournament in Blaine. Ticketing and hotel information for the Showcase can be FOUND HERE.
The Dogs remain in the Lower 48 until Sept. 25 when they wrap up a 2-game series against the Janesville Jets. The 2021-22 home opener comes Oct. 1 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena. Season tickets remain on sale, and single game tickets are now available online.
